Is Stress Unraveling Your Family?

  • Are you experiencing conflict or disconnection within your family?

  • Have these issues affected your mood, energy levels, and ability to communicate?

  • Could you benefit from the neutral yet supportive guidance of a therapist who can help you understand and work through family conflict?

Family dynamics can feel complicated at times, especially with big changes, new stressors, or clashing personalities. If you’re a parent wanting a stronger bond with your child or partner, or an adult child or sibling facing ongoing conflict, it’s natural to feel sad, irritable, or overwhelmed. However, with support, it’s possible to ease tension, rebuild connection, and create healthier ways of relating.

My counseling practice specializes in relational and family systems, offering solutions to clients feeling stuck in or discouraged by persistent conflict patterns. Collaborating together in family therapy, we can work to understand each person’s role and how to build on individual strengths to create a more cohesive and supportive dynamic at home. Through this process, your family can find new ways to communicate, solve problems, and reconnect.

All Of Us Have To Learn Skills For Fostering Healthy, Balanced Relationships

Families are always changing—children grow, relationships shift, and the needs of aging loved ones evolve. Amidst these changes, it can feel hard to stay grounded while also becoming the person you want to be.

Add external stressors or transitions to the mix—including technology, shifting cultural norms, political and financial uncertainties, and changes in the family structure like a death or divorce—and it’s no wonder you may be feeling underprepared to navigate conflict in a healthy way. Instead, it’s possible you’re focused on the symptom (i.e., the argument) rather than the root cause itself (often trauma, a lack of trust, or unhealthy patterns).

A therapist is specially trained to help your family address core issues while also honoring each individual’s needs, goals, and strengths. As you get to the heart of the matter through counseling, conflict and disconnection can be meaningfully resolved.

I Specialize In Therapy For Clients Looking To Heal Their Family Dynamic

As a solution-focused, systemic therapist, my family therapy services are available to a range of clients, including:

  • Individuals and couples struggling to (co)parent

  • Parents and teens (12+) experiencing ongoing tension at home (included blended family issues)

  • Adult children looking to work through conflict with their parents, siblings, or other family members

  • Individuals in the “sandwich generation” who’ve developed stress while simultaneously caring for growing kids and aging parents

Therapy blends long-term insights with practical skills that can be implemented immediately, which may include setting small, achievable goals, recognizing and using both individual and collective strengths, and tracking progress. Learning and practicing new ways of listening, discussing, and solving problems together—during sessions and at home—can help your family see positive changes.

What To Expect

Since therapist-client fit is essential to this process, I offer a complimentary, 15-minute consultation call to help each individual or family determine if my approach will be supportive. If we decide to move forward, a first session will be scheduled (which will most certainly include parents if minors are involved). Family therapy sessions are available online or in person to clients local to the Orlando, FL area.

From there, the process is highly individualized to each individual’s, couple’s, or family’s unique needs. Because I use Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), areas for improvement are collaboratively identified, and sessions are focused on actionable solutions.

Part of Solution-Focused Therapy involves exploring “exceptions”—or times when the central problem/conflict is not present—so that your family can identify and build on existing strengths, explore new ones and track progress. You will also learn to visualize preferred outcomes as you develop lifelong strategies for mindfulness, delegating tasks, and celebrating the victories you share together.

As a systemic therapist, I know how much focusing on strengths and small, practical steps can generate big, lasting change. I am confident that as the members of your family feel heard and supported through the therapy process, it will bring all of you closer. When everyone works together toward a solution, healing is possible.

Common Concerns About Family Therapy…

How do I know that counseling will even be effective for me/my family?

It’s okay to feel a bit unsure and skeptical about this process. Especially if you’re new to the idea of therapy, you may think it’s useless to work with someone who doesn’t know your family very well.

But as a specially trained clinician, I am passionate about working with individuals, couples, and families to foster positive change. Counseling, whether in-person or online, can help you discover real solutions, regain control, and heal the family dynamic. My approach focuses on what will truly work for you so that this process feels worthwhile for each person.

We’ve tried therapy in the past but it didn’t work—how will your approach be different?

I’m sorry therapy hasn’t worked for you in the past, and it’s understandable why you’d be hesitant to try it again. But I want to assure you that progress is possible, and you don’t have to work through it on your own.

My style in family therapy is unique because it focuses on healing the dynamic while also offering you actionable skills and solutions you can implement right away. I don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach in this process. Rather, we focus on your goals—both individually and systemically—in a way that facilitates small yet meaningful steps toward lasting change.

Solution-Focused Therapy is not about keeping your family in counseling indefinitely; it’s about changing course as quickly as possible while providing you with communication and problem-solving skills you can use for life.

Won’t a therapist just take sides with my partner/child/family member?

Part of a therapist’s job is to stay neutral and support everyone’s perspective. I know this process works if (and only if) each person feels seen, heard, and valued in the counseling space.

The goal of family therapy is not to create a tally of who’s right and who’s wrong, but rather to foster a more connected, cohesive dynamic that can ultimately generate more teamwork.
